Downhole Applications

Although the Vortex downhole (DX) series of tools have numerous applications in deliquification (as opposed to artificial lift) solutions, the following is a list of key applications:

Storage Recovery: With the wireline retrievable (DX-WR) tool, underground gas storage companies are able to recover more of the gas stored in caverns, thereby profiting more in winter from the gas (usually) stored during the summer. Prior to the Vortex DX-WR tools, in the test region, 6% of the gas stored could never be recovered (the maximum recovery rate in this set of caverns was only 92%). After the DX-WRs were installed, in some cases, over 100% of the prior year injected gas was recovered.

Extending the Decline Curve in Horizontals: With the inline (DX-I) tool, the operator can clean out stagnant liquids from horizontals (especially in the S section where liquids are likely to accumulate). By doing so, Vortex flattens the decline curve and extends the free-flowing life down to 50-75% of the critical rate. The Vortex tools also help reduce flowing bottom hole pressures and enhance efficiencies which can translate to increased production (if the well has more to give).
More info on this DX-I tool can be found here.
downholeKeeping Coalbed Methane Wells Free-Flowing: The end-of-tubing (DX-EoT) tool is ideal for coalbed methane / coal seam gas and other low-pressure applications. Placed on the end of the tubing string at the formation at the start of the well life, this DX-EoT allows CBM wells to free-flow from the start (as opposed to being on progressive cavity pumps — a vastly more expensive investment for a worse result).
In the same CSG Australian field, all but one Vortex well was free-flowing (out of over 50 tools) whereas all the wells on PCP were pumped wells.
More info on this DX-EoT tool can be found here.

Other downhole applications include allowing the well to flow below the critical rate (down to 50-75% of Turner and Coleman), wireline intervention in declining wells, velocity string applications, plunger lift enhancement, and reduced soap along with other surfactant and chemical use (by up to 50%).
All of the Vortex DX tools are available here.
Key surface applications are noted here.
